Both ends are hardened steel. The shaft composite is electrically non-conductive to 100,000 VAC. The shaft is also self extinguishing and will not burn when removed from direct contact with a flame. Safety-guard handgrips reduce the possibility of the operator's hands slipping onto the working ends of the bar.
